The article gives theoretical and descriptive insight into the issue of the concept of iconicity in translation from the perspective of semiotic and cognitive theories. The main object of this review is to claim the iconicity as a constitutive part of text’s significance and author’s style. Conditioned by linguistic, discursive and cultural factors, iconicity becomes an important issue in translation studies. It requires translator’s attentiveness for detail and creativity in order to render it in the translated text. Translational strategies are studied on the basis of Borges’ short-stories and their English and German translations.
