The general objective of this market study is to describe the main characteristics of the work that professional translators resident in Argentine, Chile and Spain perform. To this end, an online survey was conducted to obtain detailed information on these characteristics. The data collected in 2011 was contrastively described by countries, and some data of the 2008 survey concerning residents in Chile was compared with the results of the present study. The research approach of this study is quantitative, and the scope of the investigation is descriptive. Between May and July 2011, 1077 professional translators participated in the 2011 survey and the results were used to update and optimize the Master in Translation and the Diploma on Translation and TICs offered by the Translation Program at our University. The collected data can also be useful for other universities that train professional translators. In this article we present some data related to the academic and professional profile of the translators that participated in the survey
